Although I was doubtful about purchasing the new ipod firmware, I believe that I made the right move by having the official app installer rather than the jail-broken one. It did at first come as a shock to me how much some of the apps were on the app store however. So far I have purchased Monkey Ball, the graphics are amazing for such a portable device, however it isn’t really my type of game. Crash bandicoot racing is by far the most fun, graphics aren’t amazing but they aren’t awful either. Probably the best part of CB is that they have made sure that the true crash team racing spirit is still there, jumping, drifting and power-ups are all there :). The final app I have bought up to date is Pool, that was yet again very well built and will recover me from major cases of boredom in the near future.
Another app that surprised me is Remote, I could not believe the speed and functionality that it serves. I’m able to change the songs that my pc is playing without having to move! I have also just found a wordpress app which enables offline use so I should come back from my holiday to France with many stories ![]()
This works with every version of ubuntu that I’ve installed (including hardy).
1. Install wine-doors using a .deb - direct link - download page -
2. Run WineDoors from Applications >>System Tools >> Wine-Doors and let it configure wine
3. Once the main wine-doors window comes up search down the list for DCOM 98 and press install followed by Apply
4. Close winedoors once that has completed and insert your warcraft III ROC cd. Browse to your cd and double click on install.exe, follow the installation as you would on windows.
5. Then do the same for the frozen throne if you want.
6. To run it manually, you can put this command in console, the first for ROC and the second for TFT. Opengl is added to stop it using directx which dramatically increased performance.
wine “/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Warcraft III/Warcraft III.exe” -opengl
wine “/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Warcraft III/Frozen Throne.exe” -opengl
7. The installers automatically make the correct launchers for you on the desktop that run through wine. You can delete the .lnk files however as they are not used.
After finishing a little salvaging op, Illy and I headed back to the station to see what I had collected. Only for a guy with -6.4 sec status to state “ok how much 2 save my ship”. As usual, illy took advantage of this situation as you can see from the local chat log.
bulebolt > ok how much 2 save my ship
illy111 > 20 mil
bulebolt > ok stop shooing
SpamooM > send first
illy111 > now
Gradinger > lol
illy111 > wts so funny
bulebolt > dne
bulebolt > well
SpamooM > Thanks
SpamooM > =D
dabaron > lol
illy111 > <3
bulebolt > weel can i save my ship
Gradinger > nope
SpamooM > you will have to ask the guys who are shooting you
As you can tell, We gained a fair amount of cash from sitting in a station =D. There is a lesson to be learned here folks, Never underestimate human stupidity.
After hours of searching and scratching my head, I came accross a useful command that has saved me going back to 7.04.
If you are getting sound but no microphone, and you have been getting this nasty error,
“Failed to construct test pipeline for ‘gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat’”
Go to System>Prefrences>Sessions
Add a new program to startup, give it a name such as ‘Mic Fix’. And command should be,
LC_ALL=C gst-launch gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat
You will be able to hear yourself and gnome will still bitch at you, but you will be able to use skype and other chat programs. Hope this helps :).
After much love and affection shared with vista (ultimate). I reverted back to XP after my registry decided to delete itself, I’d had enough. Although I get over 100fps more on XP, I am still missing aero, the cool alt-tab thingy and the sidebar that takes ages to load at startup. Another thing I’m starting to favor XP over Vista is the compatibility with my hardware drivers.
For those that want XP look on vista however I recommend vista transformation pack I’ve used it before and can confirm that it works, however I don’t want to install it on my new system as I can predict that it will mess up something or other.
Yesterday when the Orange box was released and when I got back from school I had challenged my self to complete portal and halflife2 Episode 2 before 11pm. I thought I would never do it, but to my suprise I was finished by 10pm.
Here is my mini review…
Portal
Portal was a great game with a very unexpected ending, I was in hysterics laughing at the sarcastic computer voice that follows you through the game. Overall the game play was very good with challenging puzzles which is what makes it. The idea of community maps makes it a similar concept to Trackmania Nations where the community maps become better than the original ones. I thought it was a bit short and could be slightly longer in the test environment.
Half-life 2 : Episode 2
Upon receiving a recap on what happened in episode 1, you find yourself trapped inside a train where some of the story is fed to you, I believe that there has been a vast improvement in the graphical side of the game as it is far more realistic. Probably due to community suggestions, there are many large fights, first against Ant Lions, then combine followed by the huge fight at the end situated at white forest. Where it is you vs legions of strider’s accompanied by the new enemy called the Hunters which pack a nasty electronic attack. With an unexpected ending, I shall say no more and leave you find out the rest yourself.
